Leading in the Central West Inc

10 Year Impact Report 2016-2025

The Leading in the Central West (LCW) program emerged from a strong community need identified in 2015–2016. While many people from Central Western Queensland had taken part in national or state-level initiatives such as regional programs like Building Rural Leaders (BRL) and industry programs, there was a clear gap: affordable, ongoing and place-based leadership development tailored to the unique social, economic and cultural context of Central Western Queensland.

In response, a group of volunteers and alumni of Building Rural Leaders, Vision Leaders and other programs came together to co-design a locally owned leadership program. This volunteer organising group became known as Leading in the Central West (LCW).

Social Value of Saleyards – Research Report 2022

The Social Value of Saleyards research was developed to understand something regional communities already knew: saleyards do far more than move livestock — they strengthen people.

Commissioned by the Australian Livestock Markets Association, this national study captured insights from producers, agents, transporters, health providers and local authorities across multiple states. It explored how sale days create connection, reduce isolation and support the well-being of rural people.

Through interviews, surveys and observations, the research highlighted the importance of belonging, identity and the simple power of a chat over the rails. Saleyards are not just infrastructure – they are social lifelines that help keep communities resilient, informed and just a little happier.
